Working House Fire w/FF Injury Leonard Ct in St. Leonard, MD |

| Calvert County Volunteers were dispatched shortly before 730am on 10/05/2011 for a report of a two story single family dwelling fire. When units arrived on scene they advise that there was a working fire and the working fire dispatch was sounded adding Charles and St. Mary's County units to the call. During the Fire Attack one Fire Fighter suffered serious but non-life threatening burns to what appeared to be his lower body, ScanMD.org is currently waiting an official press release from St. Leonard VFD Chief with further details. The Burned Fire Fighter was Transported by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 to Medstar Burn Unit in Washington DC. Units operated on the scene for well over an hour before wrapping up and going in service. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshals office. The house had been abandoned for nearly 6 months according to a witness on the scene. If you have any information regarding this fire please contact the MD State Fire Marshals Office. Engine 62 arrived on location, laid 1,000 feet of 3" from a hydrant and advanced an attack line to the rear of the residence to assist with extinguishing the fire. During the process, Firefighter Michael Montgomery Jr of the Huntingtown VFD partially fell through the floor causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his right leg. He was air-lifted to Med Star and is currently admitted to the Burn Unit. The Chief of the Department, Assistant Chief of the Department and a handful of other members are bedside with Michael Montgomery Jr along with the DCFD Burn Foundation. It is anticipated that in the next few days, Montgomery will undergo surgery and possible skin grafts.
