Oil Truck Overturns Resulting in HAZMAT Emergency Authorities in St. Mary's County are on the scene of a HAZMAT emergency in Leonardtown. Fire and Rescue along with HAZMAT teams responded to the 41300 block of Medley's Neck Road around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30 for report of an overturned vehicle. Crews arrived on the scene to discover a Burch Oil truck into the woods on its side with the driver trapped. Rescue crews worked to extricate the 58 year old, male driver who was transported by MSP Trooper 7 to MedStar for his injuries. The truck's tank was compromised and is leaking oil into ditch close to a nearby creek. Maryland Department of the Environment HAZMAT units are en route to the scene for cleanup as is Maryland State Highway to put sand down on the roadway and for traffic control. Medley's Neck remains closed at this time until cleanup is complete. Police advise using alternative traffic routes.
