On the afternoon of January 2, 2012 at 1307hrs Charles County Communications Dispatched a reported house fire in the 7300 block of Woodhaven Drive in Laplata VFD's 1st due area. Units from LaPlata, Bel Alton, Waldorf, Newburg, Hughesville & Charles County Rescue Squad were dispatched. Units marked up responding immediately after dispatch. Chief 1A arrived to find smoke showing from Side A of the structure. Engine 11 (LaPlata) arrived on scene first and was assigned attack group and made entry into the structure. Upon entry the attack group was met with smokey conditions as the crew made there way to the basement. Chief 10 (Bel Alton) was assigned Division 1 leader and made entry and completed a search on the 1st floor and checked for extension while the Attack group leader advised command (Chief 1A) of heavy smoke conditions in the basement with moderate heat present. Further investigation by the attack group found that the fire was in the Delta quadrant of the basement and the crew put a quick knock on the fire. Division 1 (Chief 10) advised there was no extension on the first floor and command advised units to start ventilating the house. Crews remained on scene for approximately 1 hour. The structure was occupied at the time of the fire, no one was reported to be injured as of this story. This fire is currently under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshall's Office.
